Historically, Singapore was originally named 'Singa Pura' ('Lion City') when a prince from Sumatra saw a beast that resembles a lion when he first set foot on the island in the 14th century.

In 1819, Sir Stamford Raffles establish Singapore as a British trading center. Free trade policies in the country attracting merchants from all over the world including from Asia, the United States and the Middle East.

Singapore gained independence on 9 August 1965. In the same year, Singapore received as a member of the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Nations.

Region
The total area of Singapore is 707.1 square meters, consisting of one main island and several small islands located in the southeast and south of the island.

Climate
Singapore, including tropical country with an average temperature between 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, high humidity and frequent rain, especially during the Northeast Monsoon season winds from November to January.

Population
Singapore has a population of 4.7 million including 3.6 million Singapore permanent residents (citizens residing in Singapore). Open door policy of Singapore continues to allow foreigners to live and work in the vibrant city.

Residents
Singapore is a country with different ethnic populations, of which 76% Chinese, 13.7% Malay, 8.4% Indian, and 1.8% other ethnicities.
Language
Singapore has four official languages, namely Malay (national language), English (language of administration), Chinese and Tamil.

Government
Singapore is a country is a republic with a parliamentary system of government to adopt the Westminster model. Singapore head of state is a president who named SR Nathan, who was elected in a general election on September 1, 1999 (President elected with a term of 6 years), the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong (since 12 August 2004).

Economic
